It's a powder that you make into a tea.
They give it for all kinds of problems, e.g. a sleep aid. It does help for sleep, I loved it!
In the Health food store here (New York City, the Union Square Whole Foods store) they didn't know Natural Calm could be used as a laxative and the first time I went to ask for it, they didn't have it, but thought they had some other version. Well, there is no other version, as far as I know, and they didn't carry any Natural Calm in the store (shame, it's like New York City, you'd think they would have it or at least know it), so I had to order it online (from amazon, LOL).
So, beware. Here's the web site for Natural Calm: http://www.petergillham.com/ and you will see it sais "anti-stress drink" first If they don't know it in your HFS, try getting it online.
Additionally, if you are in the US, there is a generic version, which is cheaper. It's called Magnesium Citrate and is sold in most pharmacies (at least here in New York City). I took that, because I liked the taste better (there's a cherry flavor), and found the generic version more effective (I guess I was having problems with the dosage calculations between the two).
I am glad you decided to take it. As I said, it's not like a laxative that will make your bowels lazy, because it does not stimulate contractions. Plus, I think most of us C-ers need a gentle laxative at times, just to relieve the anxiety of not having gone for awhile. Anxiety is a major contributor to most people's IBS and it just turns into a vicious cycle - get C, get anxious, get more and more C, get more anxious, etc.
