I normally have D and using a laxative to help with a bout of C messes me up for ages -- I'd avoid doing that at all costs. Drinking lots of hot tea helps. So does chewing gum, and exercise.

Usually C after surgery is from the narcotics. I typically just tough it out, but I had horrible C after my second-to-last surgery, so during my last surgery I started using Colace (stool softener). This REALLY helped.

I am pretty sure that you can't take your fiber during the no-solids phase, but ask your gynecologist to be sure. I would definitely start it back up again as soon as your doctor gives the OK. Mixing fibers is OK as long as your tummy is OK with it. Just make sure you're not taking too much for your body.

I'm sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery and I hope you get through it okay.
