It does take a long time for probiotics to work. Give it at least 2 months. It isn't a 'cure' for IBS though, so don't expect all your symptoms to simply vanish.
You can get the good gut flora back. Anytime I'd have to do a round of antibiotics, I would be sick for so long afterwards I thoguht something was seriously wrong. My stomach seemed to get back on track on its own after a long period of time, but if I had known about probiotics I would have given it a shot too.
