Christie--Have you read the IBS Diet book? It has plenty of helpful suggestions on getting stable and feeling better.

You can have pain and your stomach can swell if it's too empty. You need to eat small portions of food and take supplemental fiber throughout the day to get yourself back into shape. Rice, toast, tea, applesauce and bananas are always a good way to start. Slowly add other IBS safe foods so you get proper nutrients. Drink plenty of water (not too cold!). You can also use a heating pad on your tummy if the pain gets too intense.
