Charcoal is fairly safe, but be careful. It can interfere with the absorption of medicines and nutrients. If you're taking any medications, you should check with your doctor before taking it regularly. It's usually used to treat gas, bloating and diarrhea, so I'm not sure why it helps with the constipation.
