Can sugar be a trigger sometimes?

I've been very careful of what I've been eating/drinking but have had more sugar than normal that last few days. I found these macaroons at a bakery that are dairy free and gluten free and fat free but I'm sure have lots of sugar. I've had quite a few and noticed that I've been going a lot but not much at one time. Wondered if this was upsetting my system. Sugar normally isn't a trigger but maybe because I'm eating something new and more of it than normal.
