Hi there. My IBS is very similar to yours. This diet can work for you. But you have to keep in mind that it isn't the diet alone that gets you to being stable and you have to give it time. Your gut needs to heal and that can take a long time. It took me 2 years to get stable. Here is what worked for me:

*Heather's diet (your whole family can eat the same foods as you, you don't have to make one meal for you and one meal for them.)
*L-Glutamine supplements
*Multivitamin (I take Alive!)
*Gut-directed Hypnotherapy (I STRONGLY recommend this!)
*Lots of water and adequate sleep
*Regular exercise (I'm pretty sure that you are getting good exercise on a dairy farm and running after six kids so you really shouldn't have to add any in.)
*Acacia fiber
*Imodium as needed (I take it usually once or twice a week depending on my gut is feeling.)

I went from having severe attacks every day to having maybe three of four a year, at most. And now they are easy to get under control. I can't remember the last time I missed work because of IBS. Remember it took me two years to stable out. Be patient and NO CHEATING on the diet. Even the tiniest bit of trigger food will most likely have you running to the bathroom.
