Dr. Gerson graduated with honors from State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, and completed medical internship and residency at Cornell Division, Bellevue Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. He completed a two year gastroenterology fellowship at the same institutions. His current positions, as indicated above, include Clinical Professor and Attending Physician at Mount Sinai.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Gerson has authored numerous research articles on various gastrointestinal subjects. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Gerson has served overseas, as a Peace Corps Physician in Nigeria for two years, where he was a Visiting Instructor, University College Hospital, Ibadan. In addition, he has served as a Visiting Volunteer Physician for Care-Medico in Peru, and has been an invited lecturer in Brazil, Ireland, Indonesia, India and China."
