Hello everyone! I am having my first colonoscopy tomorrow and the prep hasn't been bad at all!
The medicine that my doctor uses is called Pico Salax. It is orange flavoured and a little fizzy at first. I had no trouble taking it (which was one of my big concerns) What I really like is that you dissolve the package into 6oz of water and thats it (not gallons like Go-Litely).
The rest of the prep means having only clear fluids for the 2 days before and the morning of the colonoscopy. But honestly having only clear fluids is easy considering the rest of prep was bearable (it was worth it). I took one packet Sunday morning and the next Monday morning. Then I have to do an enema tonight but it could be worse.
According to the fact sheet and website, if you cannot take 2 days of clear fluids, or have to work, you can do the prep a little different.
From what my doctor told me, it is a new-ish product in Canada (I don't know about the USA) and not all places stock it. I found a pharmacy that had it, but some people have to ask the pharmacy to order it or they order it themselves from the Pico Salax website.
Anyhow, I just wanted to let you all know that there is another option for bowel prep. Considering how terrified I was about the prep and how much my butt would hurt ... it turned out okay.
