Marnie, current research on IBS has found some molecular problems in the gut and some abnormal functioning of the acc part of the brain.

The scar tissue could cause pain, especially if you have IBS.

I am not sure what to tell you here really. One I would get three stool samples done. Also blood work nowadays screens for a lot of problems, more so then days past.

On bacteria in IBS, they have not found one that causes IBS. There is something called small bowel bacterial overgrowth, which can mimick some IBS symptoms, but it is also more likely to cause d, most pathogens are more likely to cause d, because the body wants to expell them.

Its not likely really that IBS will be a bacterial overgrowth problem. It is more how the colon functions and they have found problems, but not the whole picture yet.

PS some of the antispasmatics can be a problem when a person has constipation as they slow the gut transit down.

Do you do any forms of relaxation, this is very important to IBSers and symptoms.
