I was on birth control as a teenager and then after I had my first son I went back on it. I did not have IBS until after giving birth, so when I went back on the pill my symptoms were just crazy. I could not eat anything. It took me almost 7 months to get the nerve up to talk to my GP and she just gave me anti-spasam medicine. So I used that with a little bit of relief. I then went to my GYN for another reason and she reffered me to a GI. So I made an appt and when I told him what I was there for and that I also had IBS. He asked if I had had any test done and I did not my GP just gave me a medicine. So we did test and confirmed my IBS. He said that my birth control could possibly make my IBS worse. I am married so the idea of condoms was not appealing to me at all and my son was just over a year old. My husband and I decided to go off of it and wa la my body was back normal. I still get funny around my period but only for like 3 days. I do not stick straight to the diet and I eat things I should not with no problem at all, except red meat. Like right now I am eating lucky charms and whole milk. I do make sure I get enough fiber though. So to sum up this book: when I went off my birth control I felt like a completely different person. It was defintely risky and we were both unsure about it as we wanted to give it a little more time before we got pregnant again.I can not help you with the other methods as I have only been on ortho-tri-cyclin low. If nothing works, condoms seem to be your best answer. Good luck and let us know how you are doing
