Thanks!!!!

I know fructose DOES affect me. Can't drink any fruit juices or eat much fruit. Your articles are so very informative! Also seem to have trouble w/citrus and spicy things. Stay away fr. beans, cabbage family, corn, sauerkraut, but when I'm a lot better, do eat a bit of broccoli & cauliflower. My diet has been QUITE limited over the years!!! F.E. the only thing I drink is tea......hot or cold and no lemon! Also decaf only.

Am REALLY AFRAID TO GO ON ANY SOY PRODUCTS!!! Drank a little soy milk this summer and don't know if that added to my problems......but it sure wasn't making them any better!

Tim's article fr. the BBC was very interesting re: bad bacteria remaining in milk.......so milk must be heated to a higher temp. to kill this. I REALLY THINK THERE'S AN awful lot of truth in this. You prob. read it. Hope so!

I've had IBS for almost 30 yrs. shortly after having a hysterectomy!!! Once stayed off ANY milk product (sure missed ice cream) for probably 10 yrs and did get what I'd call back to very close to normal......as I remember. Hard to remember all, as I've had trouble for soooooo long.

In late 99, I was diagnosed w/GERDS w/an endoscopy (after Pepcid stopped doing anything after a couple of months), but had NEVER had any acid symptoms before......that I noticed. Am on prevacid now. In Jan of this yr. came down w/really bad case of sinus & bronchitis. After prob. 10 das. of Levaquin, thought I was better, but it came back and I was on Levaquin for prob. a month total inc. a prednisone pack. Had 1 heck of a time. At that point.....near end, or at end of antibiotic, even tho prior to this I had had the urgency!!!!!!!! (which sometimes turned into D if I went a few x's /da.), but then I got D and Dr. heard my stomach growling like crazy. You could hear it next door. LOL. He gave me Phenegran (promothezine is generic) which cured the D really quickly & after a while I had gotten off it. I had NO PAIN at that time....that I remember. (THIS DR. IS IN FL. where we go for the winter).

He did a stool test...but I don't know what all for, but it was negative. I was able to eat things like a few wings, fries, and ice cream. AM THINKING NOW that I shouldn't have eaten the icr cr. If I eat anything w/milk, I use a lactose pill ever since.

Prior to all this, I had been on Librax for years........ & before that Bentyl for quite a few yrs. which did zilch, but since I was so much better (the Prevacid REALLY had seemed to help my IBS symptoms---which I believe I was told is not uncommon), I pretty much got off the librax. My Internist didn't like prescribing it anyway & had cut it way back. Librax did work tho.

I should mention that in the beginning many yrs ago, I had pretty much IBS-C. They had me on bran flakes & metamucil. I spent forever on the couch w/heating pad....so much that I had burns on my tummy, but I could have cared less! Am sure now that bran wasn't good. For yrs. now have been on metamucil and abt 4-5 yrs ago started eating oatmeal every other day. UGH.......but yes, that reminds me that I still was having problems (mainly urgency......not nec. D, and don't think pain). THIS HAS GONE ON FOR SOOOOO LONG, it's hard to remember!!! Even the GI I used to see has RETIRED!!!!!!!

Anyway the D came back July 4 like mad and the PAIN..... after tasting baked beans I made for a clambake!!!!!!! I read abt calcium and now take that which SURE DOES SEEM TO HELP!!!

See that my calcium is low fr. metabolism & lipid panel blood tests. Internist never bothered to tell me Calcium was low tho. She just said electrolytes were fine and told me to see a GI.

Finally saw GI......for a sec. BUSY MANNNNNN!!!! He does mostly procedures and his PA handles most other things like pre-exam, tho I did see him long enuf for him to prescribe Levbid. Did a colonoscopy on 9/24 which I just got results of: 3 small polyps were removed, but they were of the andeometrous (?sp) type and I have to be screened again in 3 yrs. He had indicated 5 yrs right after procedure, but apparently they weren't the type he had expected. Am rather upset about this...........!!!!

Got to see him when he came in after my hubbby's colonoscopy which was fine altho he has bad diverticulosis. I don't have that. That's when he told me abt the polyp screening in 3 yrs. I did get him to prescribe Librax......but wanted to talk to him!!!!!!!

I was almost to the car..........when nurse came after me and said HE WOULD.... HAVE TIME TO TALK TO ME!!!!!! (They hadn't wanted to disturb him as he was catching up on computer and was GRUMPY when disturbed!!!!!!). ANYWAY, then I told him abt the promenthazine experience I mentioned above........, and he ripped up the Librax pres. and said to have my Internist call him. Said he would rather have me on promethazine anyway!!!!! This drug is for nausea actually . I haven't actually had nausea!!!! It isn't for spasms!!! It sure does take the PAIN away tho better than the Librax......tho haven't been on Librax enuf to see recently.

The GI, on 1st visit......when I saw him for a second, had put me on Levbid 1 x day before bed which made me shaky, exhausted, dizzy and made my heart skip or start to beat fast. Don't need that cause am on Inderal for HBP now, but ws 1st on it for fast heartbeat initially. An on 120 mg/da. now and another BP med too. I had written on medication sheet that anything w/adrenaline, or an upper, caffeine, Nodoz, gave me palpitations.

SOOOOOOOOO, my Internist is supposed to call him re the promenthazine presc. That w/be interesting cause she DOESN'T call anybody!!!! And.....she was REALLY against promethazine. Said it causes glacuoma. Fr. what I've seen on WebMD, there is no such mention. Does mention that Levbid & Librax can make that condition worse tho.

My diet has been REALLY limited since early July--- toast, chick nood soup, rice, oatmeal, chick breast, potatoes, bread, pasta, then bananas, carrots. Lots of teassss! Been drinking tea for years now!!!!! Am getting so I can eat more........finally. Love that Rice milk.

GOT GI TO DO celiac test....negative, and FINALLY got them to order Lactose Breath Test which I haven't gone for yet. I AM WONDERING ABT. BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH??? Think Heather left a note for your advice on this. Also, no sed rate, h pylori, or clostridium difficile (guess this is bacterial overgrowth), other blood tests have been ordered by either Dr. Think I am forgetting one or more tests here.

One thing more that I prob. should mention, is that abt 10 yrs ago was on Ceftin when I had a GREAT internist and got D. He put me on rice milk......the actual liquid boiled fr. rice, and boiled chicken breast broth and it cleared up in 1 week. Don't think I had pain then........have been PRETTY MUCH PAIN free till recently, ..... July.

One more thing.....the pain is right where the cecum is and the nurse said that scar tissue fr. an operation can form and cause pain. Have to wonder abt. this and how I would find out if this could be the cause. As I remember, in the past, the pain was on the right but not just limited to that area.

Don't know if I'm going to be able to get my internist to order these tests......cause she'll say, if the GI didn't order them, prob. not necessary. Have FOUND what appear to be 2 GOOD Drs. in the area, but can't get in till Jan., when we hope to be in FL. Hoping I can find one there. BUT......these Drs. here REQUIRE A REFERRAL fr. your primary and I KNOW she's not abt. to authorize that.......cause I've ALREADY seen one!!!!!!!!

Just interested in what you think of ALL THIS??????? Especially the overgrowth of bad bacteria. Any suggestions/ideas would be ever so much appreciated!!!!!!!!!
