Hi!
I'm a "D" also, and am stable. However, I've had the worst reactions to antibiotics than I have food. I've tried ALL of them (I get lots of UTIs), and found that the only antibiotic I can tolerate is Cipro. One of the antibiotics the doc gave me (nitrofura macro) caused me to vomit uncontrollably until I almost passed out, while having "D" at the same time. It was nasty.
I also take Imodium when needed, but thankfully I haven't needed it in a long time. Ditto with my Donnatal.
Don't be discouraged. You WILL get better -- don't say you won't -- you just need a confirmed diagnosis first, and it sounds like your doctor is working towards that goal. I think once you get that diagnosis, then you can figure out how to treat it; it's very hard to treat what you don't know you have.
Have you tried instant oatmeal? It always soothes my tummy, and in fact it seems to help me when I have an attack. I hate the stuff, but when I'm doubled over with cramps, I eat it anyway.
Bev
