I take Bentyl, Benefiber, Immodium, and now Cipro for my gut. I don't see myself getting better taking all this crap.
First, you're not going to be able to evaluate how well the Bentyl, Benefiber, and Immodium are working for you until you finish your course of Cipro since antibiotics can really screw up your digestive tract.
Second, I figure I'm going to have to take an SFS for the rest of my life - mine is Acacia, not Benefiber, but the principle is the same. I also figure I'm going to have to use Immodium to some extent for the rest of my life, although the longer I'm on Heather's diet the less I need. As for anti-spasmodics like Bentyl, I've gotten to the point where I haven't taken one in months, but they were very useful to me for a while. So the Cipro may well be crap, but I don't think anything else you're taking is.
I will also say, though, that until I got serious about eating according to Heather's diet, no medication did much to touch my D.
You should definitely do a Search on Cipro to see what problems people have had with it. When you do the Search for Cipro you should also find discussions about taking probiotics to try to counteract some of the antibiotic's impact on your digestive tract.
If the anti-depressant your doctor is recommending is "Elavil", I know there's a lot about that on the Boards, too.
HTH. Take care.
