Edited to add: I'm surprised Lannie's doctor is putting him on a round of this antibiotic without really knowing what is wrong. According to this site http://www.ciprousa.com/ it is commonly used to treat UTI and Prostatis - related to the prostate. It kills bacteria so it is actually going to kill off any of the good bacteria, if he has any of it left. It may do more harm that good.
