really, you do need to be able to answer these questions on your own - you're right. there will never be a comprehensive book to tell you what's safe and what isn't - it would be impossibly long, and the variations from person to person are infinite.
you have to take it into your own hands, to be able to figure it out on your own rather than relying on a list. it's really a matter of learning the guidelines and applying them case by case. read the website (maybe several times through), and keep in mind that what's said on the boards isn't steadfast rules, but personalized and sometimes idiosyncratic to the person posting. you just need to learn heather's guidelines, til they become second nature. until they're set in your head, print out the ibs cheat sheet. and like casey said, ask questions. no dairy. no fried. no triggers.
