To each his own, but I have known a couple of people who have benefited from a cleanse (not a radical intense cleanse), and I myself used I.B.S. - Intestinal Bowel Support by Renew Life, which is a cleanse, but also supports your intestines.
However, from the posts I've read on this board, some people have worse cases of IBS than I do, so what may work for some, may not work for others.
At some point though, I think the majority of the medical community will acknowledge that cleanses will benefit people. It wasn't very long ago that conventional medical doctors thought Candidas, and the health problems it causes, was rubbish that the natural medicine doctors were going on about.
