It was several years ago when I found out about my IBS that I did go to jury duty and they asked if anyone felt they couldn't serve they could talk to the judge. I stood in the line of people to talk to the judge (the whole while my tummy in an uproar) and when I got up there I explained that I had stomach & anxiety problems and that I didn't feel that I could sit through a trial without several bathroom visits. He excused me immediately.

The next time I got called, I had my doctor write a letter for me stating that I was on anxiety meds and stomach relaxers and that she didn't think that I could sit through a trial and give it my full attention. Also, stating that the anxiety meds might make my mind a little fuzzy about making important decisions like you do in jury situations. I was excused and never got another jury summons. That was several years ago.

I don't know what it is about jury duty but it throws my tummy and anxiety into a tailspin. Part of it could be the drive into downtown which freaks me out with all the freeways. I have looked into taking the bus but you have to do two transfers and that freaks me out, too.

It's really too bad because I would really like to serve.
