A papaya that's good usually smells good and yields to finger pressure. The outer skin is usually bright versus dark green--more yellow/spotted, I suppose? Does it help with bloating? I'm not sure! All I know is that it is one of the most tummy soothing foods. Wonderful for when you're feeling crampy/spazzy. I've had days when I've eaten a whole large papaya over the whole day!
