I have officially had IBS for about 6 months but I now know that I have had it for several years. The onset coincides with several major abdominal surgeries. I have suffered most from diarrhea and loud, embarrassing lower GI rumbling---everyone in the immediate area could hear me. I was beginning to socially isolate myself. Oh, and did I mention the gas!! Eating for IBS stabilized me and the noise disappeared. I got careless with the diet and many of my symptoms returned in the last 10 days. However, today I had my first real gas attack. I was in the bathroom on my hands and knees (the only position that provided some relief), crying out in pain. It lasted about half an hour. What is to be done in the midst of an attack like that??? Help.
