Hey all! This is long-winded and I apologize. But I am just soooo confused!
I am newly diagnosed with IBS-D, although I suspected I had it for the last 5 yrs. Up until now, I was told it was all in my head. Anyway, I am looking for some wisdom and experience regarding diets. I read some of the old posts, but I don't think they specifically address my question.
For the last two months or so, I was religiously following Heather's diet and cooking from her cookbook. I have to say, I think it did help soothe my system and I noticed improvements after a month or so. I still had problems though, but I think it has to do with soy products. I don't think I can digest them.
Anyway, because I was still experiencing problems (gas, bloating and some loose BMs) and I can't get into my GI for a while, I sought out a nutritionist who was recommended by a friend of mine. He put me on a diet that is completely opposite of Heather's!! It's called the Maker's Diet. He told me her diet was terrible for me b/c of all the carbs and it was feeding the bad bacteria and yeast in my body. He told me to cut out dairy (which I already did with Heather's diet), gluten and all sugar. This is really hard to do guys! Especially since that was the backbone of Heather's diet!
Moreover, he wants me to take these probiotics called Primal Defense from the Garden of Life. These things make my symptoms far worse (constant pooping). He says this is normal?! Anyway, he is convinced that IBS is caused by bacterial imbalance and yeast. I am really skeptical. I have no idea what to eat anymore and am frankly scared to death to eat! Can anyone give me any pearls of wisdom? Has anyone taken Primal Defense and can tell me if what I'm experiencing is normal? Has anyone heard this theory about bacteria and yeast causing IBS? Thanks so much in advance!
Amanda
