My GI specialist had me get an upper GI with small bowel follow through and a Celiac test but since IBS runs in the family I didn't have to go through anything else. The upper GI wasn't a big deal. The doctor was a crank but oherwise it wasn't bad. I had to wait around though for the follow through and they wouldn't let me pee. I just had to walk around and hope the stuff would pass through to my small intestines; it took hours.
So don't worry too much; it is definitely painless. Bring something to read maybe.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
