Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | SEVERE LACTOSE INTOLERANCE PROBLEM

hi- i have had been severly lactarded for almost 3 years after a horrible case of viral gastroenteritis subsequent to several courses of antibiotics for a urinary infection. i guess my system just gave out. it hasnt been easy, but i've changed my eating habits around and am now more or less used to a dairy free lifesytle. however, i find that i'm getting more and more frustrated with this problem and to know that i'm missing out on wonderful food really drives me nuts. i used to have an amazing digestive system and loved pizza and ice cream every once and a while. now i have to resort to non-dairy desserts which really are not very fulfilling and most of the time taste lousy. i find that even trace amounts of dairy (like in foods that were manufactured in facilities that also handle milk products) bloat me up and trigger an IBS-C attack. even goat cheese, which is supposed to be very easy to digest, gives me problems. I've taken acidiphilus pills, event went for allergy elimination (NAET)which was a huge waste of money, and use lactaid pills - but i still cannot get a break when it comes to incorporating dairy into my diet. Does anyone have any suggestions? i'd appreciate it. thanks
