Well, finally, I'm making progress on figuring out what the heck is wrong with me! My colonoscopy was normal (thank God) last week. But my GI doctor is referring me to the GI Motility Program at Cedars-Sanai Medical Center because he suspects SIBO. I've been doing some research on SIBO and my symptoms seem to fit it:
I've had a huge weight loss in the past year (down to a size 2 from a size 6). This could be caused by bacteria in the small intestine competing with my body for nutrients. Kind of scary.
My GI motility has slowed down so much I never even feel the urge to go anymore (it's always been slow, just not quite this slow).
I've had these "attacks" that I thought were dairy-related (and still could be, I suppose) in which after not having dairy for a while and then reintroducing it, I have severe fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, lack of appetite, and generally feeling horrible. This lasted around 5 days per episode.
Anyway, I've always had GI troubles/IBS. But I'm thinking that if I have this SIBO, that could be what's causing things to be so much worse lately.
Anyone else have experiences/knowledge about SIBO? My appointment at Cedars-Sinai isn't until August 1 (bummer) and I'm soooo anxious to figure this whole thing out and get a hold of it, hopefully.
Thanks, Jennifer
