1) Casein is a dairy protein. It can be an IBS trigger, as can whey, the other protein in dairy products, and lactose, a sugar in dairy. That's why even lactose-free dairy products can be IBS triggers . 2) I have 2 snack suggestions: One is Stacy's Pita Chips (not the other brand of pita chips I've tried, they were awful! just Stacy's), Sea Salt flavor--the Pesto flavor wasn't salty enough for me . The other is Black Jewel "less hull" popcorn, which is available in bulk for stove popping and in bags for the microwave. The popcorn could still be a problem, but if you miss popcorn, this is a better choice than any other.
Good luck! And trust me, I understand the college student snacking thing--I used to carry baby carrots and granola bars with me everywhere, and I'm addicted to Cheetos--you can imagine what I was unwittingly doing to my tummy!
