It is complicated, and its hard to know what to do.

The "breaking the cycle" diet was the only thing that got me out of the bathroom--literally. I still have D, but at least now I can mostly get on with my day. For a meeting, I would take some immodium. I was really worried about taking it, but both my doctor and the people here have finally convinced me that it is entirely worth it (and safe!) to use it. Even on a regular basis if you have to for a while in the begining.

Fiber helps. Especially SOLULABLE fiber--if you lean towards D. People who are C need more INsoluable fiber to help them "go"...but for those of us without *that* problem...we can get by with very little. Especially when things are bad.

Try the breaking the cycle diet, which is almost all soluable fiber. Avoid all triggers as strictly as you know how. Drink water! And hot teas! (Peppermint, Fennel, Ginger, and Chamomille, especially). I use benefiber in my hot tea, citrucel in cold things (like applesauce and smoothies), and heather's acacia in everything I bake. I also have the fibercon pills, but I only use them when I travel. Work up to the "recommended dosage" slowly though, especially if you haven't been eating much, it takes a bit of time to "adjust".

Oh, yeah, and hold your tongue right, squint your eyes, and hop on one foot, while dancing in a circle in the bathroom making human sacrifices to the toilette gods. (Kidding! --But it seems about the desperate sometimes, I know...)

Good luck. Take some Immodium for now, and try the diet here as carefully as you can. Oh, the trouble doctors can cause when they give conflicting (or outdated!) information! *Sigh*
