Hi everyone! I am feeling really frustrated-as everyone else here can relate to. I've received a diagnosis of IBS after undergoing two colonoscopies, defogram, CAT scan, and barium swallow test. I've been faithfully following Heather's diet, take Zelnorm twice/day, etc. but my symptoms do not seem to be remitting (mainly I have severe constipation---found lots of impacted stool which was cause of my massive bloating in CAT scan!). I am working with another GI now who wants to give me air contrast enema to test for structural abnormalities and then a colonic motility test. It seems that my symptoms have been changing lately---I am constantly constipated now, when before I did have intermittent D, and so much so that my stomach is extremely swollen (leading to vomiting). I have completely lost my appetite, and even drinking liquids causing more swelling. It's to the point where I can eat a morsel or drink even water and I am either nauseous or I vomit. Nonetheless, my stomach is continually growing. In the past week, I have been able to eat little more than broth, rice cakes, and water (along with teas!) and still my weight is up 4-6 pounds. I am wondering if these vomiting, loss of appetite, and swelling are similarly experienced by other IBSers or do you think it might point to another program? I have my enema on Monday; it's just so frustrating, as you know, because I want a solution. Also, what's interesting is that my body does not respond to laxatives. For my colonoscopy, the first one with Fleet Prep did not work and I was not "clean" enough so I had to drink 4 liters of the Go-Lytely and follow-up with 4 laxatives. Only then did I have but two small bowel movements. From what others say, normally those treatments produce RAPID RESULTS TYPICALLY! Im wondering if it is more related to my colon or something with my stomach emptying---?! Im not sure, and I was just wondering if anyone had similar experiences to share?
Thanks so much everyone!
Kristen
