My six yr old son has had a lot of problems with his stomach since birth. First he was always constipated and gassy now he always has diarrhea, bloating and is VERY gassy. Quite a few yrs ago, they diagnosed him with Lactose Intolerance. About a yr ago they put him on Miralax and TUMS once a day. Recently as the symptons have worsened (literally effecting his daily routine - cant even go to the movies with out being in the bathroom the whole time and in the nurses office 4-5 times a day at school), and drs are not much help, I put him on the IBS diet and took him off all meds (going against drs advice). My father and grandfather both had/have IBS so I am following my fathers advice instead. He is strictly following the advice of Eating for IBS and passed it on to me. It has been approx 3 weeks now and the change in my son is unbelievable. We are still experimenting of course and sometimes we go a little off course unknowingly but he is so much better now. We are still following up with the Specialist and ruling out other possible diseases to be on the safe side (and that the dr just wont admit a 6 yr old could have IBS). I have 2 questions. 1: is IBS normally hereditary? and 2: my son just had a tonsillectomy. I have made him the banana smoothies and the pudding from the book but are there any other recipes for soft, cool foods he can eat with his throat so raw and sore? I have given him applesauce, popsicles, Italian ice, oatmeal, and some chopped up bananas. Hes such a picky eater now. Thank you, Jaime Latimer
