Hmm... I don't know about the immunity part... I don't think so. Soluble fiber supplements aren't really "laxatives", even though they're marketed that way, so it would be kind of like suddenly becoming immune to vitamins, at least in my mind - really unlikely.

However, remember that for Heather's diet, it's recommended that you get 12-15g of fiber from a supplement every day, in addition to the IBS diet. I can't speak for the Metamucil, but speaking from experience with the Citrucel, 1 or 2 scoops a day isn't nearly that much fiber. Keep increasing your dosage gradually till you get up to the recommended daily amount - there's more information on SFS's in the "IBS Supplements" section of the website.

And yes, your body can prefer one kind of fiber over another. But there are people here who use both Citrucel and Metamucil successfully, and my personal favorite is FiberChoice (which is supposedly one of the most "difficult" ones in terms of gas and bloating, but I've had no such problems), so you just never know! Give the Citrucel a try for a little while, and see how it goes. Good luck!
