Alyssa:
All milk products are a no-no for IBS, as far as I'm concerned. In addition, I don't even think milk products are good for you even though they may be tasty.
However, as far as the subject of consuming trace amounts of milk. Well, Heather's recipes sometimes contain things like soy cheese, a product which contains casein (a milk product). Heather has said that the small quantities of casein found in soy cheese would be safe for most IBS people. I can't say if this is true because I stay away from all milk products and products containing milk, including soy cheese.
As for your suicidal (!) dining experience yesterday, well, I just shuddered when I read what you ate! It does sound like you're in denial. Sometimes we can be lured into believing we are normal people when we've been feeling well for awhile. Don't fall into that trap or you will quickly find out IBS is not a figment of your imagination!
Eating out can be very challenging for IBS people, as can consuming any prepared food. For example, never mind the butter-smothered pretzel causing mischief with your IBS, what about the mustard that you smeared on the pretzel? Mustard certainly isn't safe for me!
Stick to Heather's diet and you will eventually feel human again!
