Here is a little vent, and I would love anyone's input on how they handle family!
1) My mom is a classic doctor-phobe, who has come up with some pretty crazy homeopathic concoctions in her day. Her idea of a "fix" for my IBS and depression involves the right vitamins and me stopping every other drug I'm on to clean out my system. She constantly forgets what foods are okay (and always, always offers me ice cream...argh!) and asks (to my embarrasment) "why is your stomach puffy like that?"
2) My dad is upset that I called my doctor an "idiot" (after he passed me off to another doctor and said he could do no more for me) and says that I should stop eating all that "organic crap" and just avoid coffee and dairy and I should be fine. But (he adds), if I don't want to listen to his advice, then he doesn't want to talk about IBS anymore.
3) My fiance...the sweetest, kindest guy, is very solicitious about my tummy. But it's embarrassing for him to always be asking, "Let's go out to eat. Oh, wait. Can you eat there? Will there be anything you can eat? Should we stay home instead?" I feel guilty, because he loves, loves, loves his food...and a variety in his diet, which is something I don't always love (with IBS). How can I let him know it's alright if we go out...I'll find something to nosh on?
Thanks for your input! I appreciate it!
