My name is Ann Marie and I have Crohn's Disease and IBS. I'm taking medication for both conditions, but I have found changing my diet extremely helpful. I was first diagnosed with Crohn's and then IBS only after a colonoscopy showed little inflammation from my Crohn's but I was still exhibiting severe symptoms. It's difficult to have both, because the symptoms are so similar and you need to have testing done to determine which one is the culprit when you aren't feeling well. Anyway, when I was diagnosed with the Crohn's I was told diet didn't really have anything to do with it. But after reading books by Heather and Jill, I discovered that if I cut out red meat, caffeine, dairy, and increase my soluable fiber intake, I felt better. I also cook my vegetable very well, and follow a low-fat diet. I don't necessarily use a lot of the recipes in Heather's book, but I definitely follow her guidelines. If I don't, I definitely don't feel well. And if I am having an attack and want to get the symptoms under control, I drink peppermint tea. And for some reason, tuna always seems to be my safe food when I need to get something of substance in me. I ate it every day for an entire week before my wedding to make sure I would be okay. My Crohn's is in remission right now, which could be largely due to the medication I take. But I also feel that eating foods that are kind to my digestive tract is also helpful.
