You definitely need to have all the tests run to rule out other things that may be causing your problems. Heather spells out all the tests you need to have in her book: The First Year: An Essential Guide for a Newly Diagnosed, which you just ordered. You really have to rule out everything else before you assume you have IBS. If you had colon cancer, or ovarian cancer, and never had the tests the results could be disastrous.

I was so afraid before I had my colonoscopy. It is definitely not a test you look forward to with joy and delight. However, it ended up being not as bad as I thought. It wasn't that bad. Don't let fear keep you from getting the tests you need to take done.
