Your rule of thumb should be as low fat as possible. Look for fat free, low fat options on everything. Stock yourself up on rice, pasta, potatoes, and go for the veggies. Keep lots of chicken/white turkey in your freezer. And as for an acceptable amount of fat, well everyone's different. Some can tolerate more than others. You'll just have to see what you can tolerate. But keep an eye out for the low fat and fat free things - they are really the best option.
