I have really bad C-IBS and the only thing I've found that definitely helps me to keep the gas under control is to not get backed up. If I don't get well cleaned out on even one morning.....which is the only time my colon works at all..... I start to have terrible bloating, discomfort and awful smelling gas by mid-afternoon and by evening time I'm miserable.

I don't know how it is for others with D-IBS. I do agree that using beano consistently before every meal and gas-x after every meal, [ faithfully!]has helped me but not getting backed up is the critical factor for me. I haven't been able to tell if using a probiotic or 12 grams [ 8 tsps.] of acacia, plus lots of lukewarm water and 1 large mug of fennel tea/day, have reduced the gas. However, they've definitely helped me to have more regular BMs and this is the foundation of my keeping my IBS under control.

Also, if you do want to try eating cruciferous vegies, first be very careful and only test one at a time, in tiny amounts,[ like one tbsp and then gradually increase slowly over many days, as tolerated] to find out which, if any, you can tolerate [and for me, asparagus as well.....I treat it as if it were a cruciferous and I can't even eat one small tsp of it w/o having terrific pain within several hours. However, I can eat well cooked red cabbage, onions, leeks and garlic. The others: broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower I can't eat at all, not even in soups....boo hoo!]. Also, be sure you cook them very well b/c this burns off the sulphur dioxide in them, which is a BIG gas producer.
