Parent's first year - any advice?

My son has IBS. This is our first year and it's taking a toll on my wife and I. We've modified his diet with good response and he's in hypnotherapy. However, my son, 13 is trying to adjust, but sometimes on the weekends, when he has more free time, tends to not eat as well as during the school week. Well, last Sunday he ate a bit and this week has been out of school all week. Not an uncommon event. Does anyone have advice on how to reduce his sick time from 4-5 days to 1-2 days? Does anyone have any positive, first hand experience with colonic hydrotherapy? Suggestions for helping 13 year olds cope? Suggestions for helping parents cope?
