It is important to know how many calories are in something and not just the fat grams. 20-25% fat in each meal is ideal and so the amount of grams is helpful but the calories need to be taken into account. Have you ever read Cooking Light magazine? I think it helps get an idea of what low fat cooking is about. Percentages are hard to figure out so I try to guess how many calories I generally consume in a day and then I keep the total fat for the day at a certain goal. I have kept a diet journal for a long time and actually add up the fat grams. So if your kid ate 1200 calories a day eating more than 30 grams of fat would be too much. That is about what I do but I don't know how much kids eat. So 30 grams goes really fast! That is about 6 for breakfast, 10 for lunch and 10 for dinner with a 4 fat gram snack. Wow huh? Not so easy. But I find a low fat diet is the NUMBER 1 thing to help my symptoms. So I hope this helps you and your daughter.

I hope my math is correct. If not someone help.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
