Tina,
I have to say that the hypnotherapy CDs have helped a lot with my sleep troubles. They really help me to fall asleep. My new problem, though, seems to be staying asleep. I often have problems falling back asleep after my middle-night potty break.
Here are the things I use to fall asleep, though: -hypnotherapy program. At least half the time, I'll fall asleep before the session is over.
-OTC sleep aid (Unisom). This stuff makes me super drowsy, so I take it very early--like 8 or 8:30 to get up at 6:00 a.m. If I take it later, I feel completely wrung out in the morning. Sometimes I just take half of one, and then the wrung out feeling is not as severe. (And I'm not a small person--I'm 5'9', 150 lbs. If you are petite, consider taking only half!)
-prescription sleep aid (sonata). Ambien makes me sick. Even though fewer than 1% of people in the studies had that side effect, I feel very dizzy and nauseated when I wake up in the morning. What can I say? I'm an anomaly. Most people love ambien, so don't let my experience hinder you. As for sonata, it works great. The only bad thing is that it only stays in your system for four hours, so sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night when it wears off.
The thing that makes me crazy is that I slept like a champ all summer, when I had no job to worry about. Now, I can't even sleep in on the weekend. I'm seriously considering going to the doc so I can hopefully get a sleep study done on me,too. We'll see.
