Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | I've been there with my daughter!

My daughter got very bad c when she was a year old and that was the start of a wonderful roller coaster of emotional and physical pain, My pediatrician said it's just because she started a more solid diet and take her off milk and had to get used to it... when it still didn't go way he perscribed senicot.. when that didn't work he perscribed a higher dose... she was up to six teaspoons of senecot a day! A week after my son was born (she was only four) she spent three days in the bathroom screaming until my ped. said to take her to the emergancy room and that maybe we should see a specialist. (Maybe! I was ready to scream! Until then he seemed to think I was overreacting when I complained!)Well to make a long story short the gastro specialist was wonderful. he perscribed equilactrin and said to make sure that she moves her bowels once a day no matter what. My husband would read to her as she sat on the toilet every night and we gave her stickers on her reward chart whenever she went.(I know it sounds silly to reward BMs but she was SO YOUNG and this was SO HARD FOR HER. the rewards gave her a positive outlook on her bathroom episodes. The equilactrin worked and after about a year she was back to normal. She's 11 now and has only had one flare up since then. I hope this helps and I hope she feels better soon. Have a good weekend.
