Have you tied swimming or something like water aerobics? Both would be pretty easy on both your back and your feet. Remember to stretch before you do any exercise - it's especially important when you haven't been exercising regularly.

But I know what you mean. I used to keep fit and keep the weight off going to the gym 3 times a week. Now I might get to the gym, but I'm not up to doing a tenth of what I used to do.
