My grandmother, mother, and I all suffer from clinical depression. The anti-depressant meds are truely a godsend. My Dad and brother especially think so since when one of us stops taking them life at home becomes hell for the guys ! I know how you feel not wanting to be "dependent" on the meds, but if they help you to feel better and live a more normal life, then definately give them a chance. Your doctor wouldn't put you on them if he/she didn't think they are safe. Good luck!
