I had anxiety long before I had IBS. I think it's possible that IBS can be a contributing factor to the onset of an anxiety disorder, though. Many people seem to have both. Basically with anxiety disorders, it is only labelled as a disorder if it interferes/changes your life in a drastic way such that you can't control it anymore. We all have anxiety, but plain old anxiety is really quite normal. IT's only when it gets way out of hand that they call it a disorder. I hope this helps - not confuses. If you are really bothered by your anxiety, you should of course talk to your Doc.
