Hi,
I'm new and trying to help my fiancee out with her IBS. I've read both of Heather's books and I'm confused. I can see that eating certain foods definitely works. Eating pasta, rice, sourdough bread help eliminate the symptoms of IBS. However, I am unsure of the conclusion that Heather comes to about WHAT it is in the pasta, rice, and sourdough bread that helps.
Item--------Serving--------------------Fiber Content (grams)
White Rice--.5 cups cooked-------------0.3 Sourdough---1 slice--------------------1.0 Spaghetti---1 cup cooked, plain--------2.0
Even if 100% of the fiber in these foods is soluble, it doesn't seem like a lot.
Is it really the soluble fiber in pasta, rice, and sourdough bread that is helping, or is it something else, like the bulk from the carbohydrates?
Thanks,
