Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

Hi all -

Been lurking around for a couple of weeks and have been following the diet from this board. I am 29/m from NY and have had some stomach issues since college -- usually D would come and go but over the few years it has gotten worse. Basically get the urge out of the blue and have to get to the BR ASAP!

Went to my dr. and based on my symptoms and lousy diet(lots of fast food, ice cream, steak, chicken, not much of any fiber) he suggested I first try a more balanced diet. I am about 6' and weight 170lbs and rarely move from that number so he didn't feel it was something more serious. This did help get rid of the pain and D and C combo which I was grateful for. Two weeks ago was bored over the weekend and had some ice cream -- too much actually - and had a miserable week.

My dr believes I have a spastic colon so I have a call into him to get a followup based on my latest episode. Over the last few days I have attempted to have a small spinach salad with my dinner -- has never been a issue. What I have now noticed is I am passing the salad within 12 hours of eating it. I know it might seem like an odd question, but has anyone else had this issue? I have never noticed anything getting through my system that fast before and was curious if anyone here has had this happen and if it might be a sign of something else?
