Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

I just got out of the hospital with a wicked gastro virus (more later, am ok). While I was in there, I was given Donnatal for the cramping pain & when I was released late yesterday afternoon was given a prescription for it. I didn't want to get the prescription filled until I got home & checked out the medication on the message boards first.

I couldn't read my doctor's writing & I finally got it at 5 am, yeah me. My inner voice said keep at this. I typed Donnatal in the old IBS search engine & in almost every post, there is your name. I saw where you don't like to take it, so I went out & looked at the side effects & boy howdy I do not want to start taking this drug. When I saw that Donnatal has Phenobarbital in it, I'm like no way. I take enough medications & I do not want to add one that I could get addicted to (I am a former smoker & drinker). Even though if you took me off all my meds I probably be one cranky old B.

I guess you could say I have an addictive personality. I would not want to take the risk. I am happy with the meds I take now. The reason for this long winded message is to say thank you very much. Your postings were red warning flags for me to check out the meds & help me make my decision. I will be back later to explain my hospital stay, because I have more questions for everyone? Thanks again.
