I think you're right. At least I had always thought that was the case. For some reason when I had the most recent test, the doctor said I didn't need to be eating gluten. It's a newer test, so I took him at his word. But now I'm wondering, since my latest reading on the subject indicates that you need to eat gluten before the test. I'm going to check with my alternative doc, as well as question the GI doc about this again. Hopefully I didn't have an expensive blood test for no good reason!
