this is my first time in this message board for ibs sufferers. i am a registered nurse and i have done extensive research in this area. i normally for most of my life ( as well as my mother and my sister) suffered from what we self-diagnosed as colitis with urgency and diarrhea especially after eating dairy, wheat, fats etc. i have recently been very ill with what the docs thought was my gallbladder and after extensive tests and biopsies attribute to my now, painful constipation and severe bloating ( i can look 9 months pregnant at times) the pain so severe you can't stand, sit or lie down. i have tried food avoidance and as all the articles say, you can eat some of the foods some of the time and some almost never. i eat 4-5 very small meals a day...and found carbonated pops, almonds and raspberries ( any fruit at this point) irritates the bowel and causes severe pain, spasms and bloating. i am now taking zelnorm for a short period of time ( normally it is given for 4-6 week treatment) and i am doing fairly well on it. i realize all the side affects and possibilities as there are with so many medications. you have to see if the benefits outway the risks. i have been to 3 doctors, the surgeon who wanted to remove my gallbladder out right away which i did not think i should do ( and my gallbladder hida scan came out normal) and i also have a history of GERD, and some patients will develop worsening symptoms of GERD when the gallbladder is removed. i have my regular doctor and i have a GI specialists. all of which i trust. can anyone tell me which foods they absolutely cannot eat and which foods make them better. i can only basically eat chicken, rice and bread right now. and chocolate every now and then ( i'm an addict to dark chocolate) and it doesn't seem to aggravate symptoms when eaten in moderation. i hope i posted this right, it is a different forum then the gallbladder one i am in now. good luck to everyone. and IBS is not fatal, and does not destroy the bowels. it is just incapicitating at times.
