Beth, Sorry to hear that your attacks have been so bad, I know how you feel. I just wanted to let you know, that if your attacks get worse around your period, you may want to check with your gyno about the possibility of endometriosis. I was diagnosed with endo in December, and I think that is the cause of my IBS symptoms. In fact, no woman should be diagnosed with IBS until the possibility of endo is ruled out because the symptoms can be very similar. Do you get really bad cramping? when? Does it get worse with excercise or after meals, or after sex, etc. etc.? What are your IBS symptoms like? I would start to chart your pain day by day so you can bring it to the doctor with you. I went through the same thing, where the diet relieved some of my symptoms, but the cramping and attacks still came. That's when I realized that the IBS and the Endo must be related somehow. I hope this is not the case with you as well, but it is something you may want to look into, as there are many treatment options for endo that may help you with your attacks.
Hope this helped you, and I hope you are feeling better! -Katy
