Dear Meg:
I too have the constipation-dominant IBS. I get really frightened when I have long periods between my bm's.
There is a liquid suppository mafe by Fleet, which I found always helps me. There is also a liquid, Lactulose, which softens the stool. (doctor's prescription).
I also use perdium. It is all natural. It causes some cramping, but taken at bedtime, promises a result the next morning. I take only one teaspoonful. I drink lots of water every day-8-10 glasses. Also, walking is very good
My stomach gets so bloated, at times that I look as though I am pregnant, and it really hurts. I have done much, much better since my gastro-enterologist put me on the new drug, Zelnorm, which is to treat constipation-dominant IBS.
