Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

Good afternoon everyone. I have been living with painful constipation for about 5 years now. This pain feels like I have constant pressure on my bladder. I originally went to see a doctor when I began having sexual dysfunction, several tests were performed, an MRI of my lower abdomen, no problems were found. OK, several years and doctors later I have never found ANY relief. My latest doctor has mentioned IBS but no formal diagnosis (if there is one) was ever made. I've tried Bentyl (no change) and Zelnorm (bad side effects). I also am being treated for severe acid reflux so I talked with my gastroenterologist about IBS but he didn't really give much information. Is my acid reflux related to my constipation?

Is there any way I can get some immediate relief even temporally? The only relief I ever have is if I can have a normal bowel movement which hardly ever occurs. Even then the pain returns quickly. I've browsed through this web site and it is very informative. When browsing the internet there seem to be much information that appears to be vague and elusive. This is really effecting my quality of life and I've more or less resigned to living with the pain. My doctor doesn't take me seriously and has tried to prescribe anti-depressants which I absolutely refuse to take. I am 30 years old and have a fairly active life style and I can't understand why I have to live with this pain!! I get so angry and frustrated sometimes. I think I'll swing by the book store and pick up Eating for IBS tonight, looks like a good place to start. Thanks for your time.
